Inaugural Founder's Prize

Short Story & Poetry Contest

For too long, the literary world has felt divided.

Writers create in isolation.
Readers consume without influence.
Industry decides what rises.

The Book Lodge was built to change that.

It is not merely a platform.
It is a home.

A place where writers, readers, and industry professionals gather under one roof.

Where readers have a voice in what is celebrated.
Where good work rises because it moves people.
Where craft is honored in the age of algorithms.

No ads.
No data mining.
No hidden agendas.

Just story.

And a community brave enough to tell it.

The Founder’s Prize marks the beginning of this movement.

The Inaugural Founder's Prize Writing Contest Headlines the Revolution

Theme: Light in the Darkness

You have a story.

(And yes — it deserves to be heard.)

This theme invites writers to explore hope that survives, courage that steadies, revelation after doubt, resilience in quiet places — the spark that refuses to go out when the world grows dim.

Interpret it broadly.
Interpret it boldly.

We are not looking for noise.

We are looking for work that stirs something deep inside us all.

Who May Enter?

This contest is open to everyone with a story to tell.

Emerging writers.
Established voices.
Students.
Professionals.

No MFA required.
No publishing history required.

This is a literary ecosystem — not a gate.

How It Works

During the competition window, Lodgers may feature:

• One Short Story
• One Poem

in their Guest Room under the theme Light in the Darkness.

Each piece becomes part of the Lodge — read, discussed, nominated.

Because here, readers are not passive.

They participate.

How Community Nominations Work

Each registered Lodger receives three nomination stars per month.

Readers award their stars to the pieces that move them most.

The most-nominated works in each category advance to final consideration.

From those finalists:

• Founder’s Prize winners are selected by the Founder.
• Lodgers’ Choice winners are determined by community nominations.

Discernment and voice.
Together.

Why This Matters

The Book Lodge is a holistic ecosystem for the literary community — both digital and, one day, physical.

A gathering place.
A bridge to industry.
A refuge for craft.
A revolution rooted in hospitality.

Writers are not content producers.
Readers are not metrics.

This is global in reach and intimate in spirit.

And it begins here.

Amplifying Small Voices

At The Book Lodge, we don’t just foster writing—we amplify voices. Just like the iconic Shakespeare & Company in Paris, we’re building a place where aspiring authors do what they do best, where independent creatives can thrive, and where literature becomes a living, breathing community.

Ready to join the adventure?

Whether you’re looking to create, collaborate, or simply be inspired,

The Book Lodge is waiting for you.

Together, let's BOOK BETTER.

The Book Lodge Ecosystem

The Book Lodge is a holistic ecosystem for readers, writers, and industry professionals. Just as George Whitman’s bookstore was a refuge and a launching pad for aspiring authors, The Book Lodge offers a safe space for writers to retreat, write, and connect—but it does so on a global scale with a powerful digital platform that connects writers, editors, illustrators, publishers, and readers around the world.
